The Aston Martin DB9 is the successor to the DB7 and one of Aston Martin’s defining modern grand tourers. It combined elegant styling, a powerful V12 engine, and a more advanced aluminium chassis, helping establish Aston Martin’s modern identity.
- Production: 2004–2016
- Body styles: Coupe and Volante (convertible)
- Engine: 5.9L naturally aspirated V12
- Layout: Front-engine, rear-wheel drive
- Designer: Henrik Fisker
- Built on Aston Martin’s VH (Vertical/Horizontal) aluminium platform
The DB9 replaced the DB7 and sat below the more focused Aston Martin DBS in the range.
The DB9 is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful Aston Martins ever made.
Key design features:
- Long bonnet and short rear deck proportions
- Signature Aston Martin grille
- Frameless doors
- Muscular but understated body lines
The later 2013 facelift brought:
- Sharper front styling
- Updated interior technology
- Increased power
- Improved suspension tuning
-
Early Cars
- 5.9L V12
- Around 450 bhp
- 0–60 mph in roughly 4.7–5.0 seconds
Later Cars (2013+)
- Up to ~510 bhp
- Faster gearbox response
- Improved ride and handling
Transmission options included:
- 6-speed manual (rare)
- 6-speed automatic
- Later “Touchtronic” automatic updates

Interior & Cabin
-
The cabin combines:
- Hand-stitched leather
- Aluminium and wood trim
- Traditional GT atmosphere
- A distinctive crystal glass key (“Emotion Control Unit”) on later models
Compared with newer cars, the infotainment system feels dated, but the craftsmanship remains a major attraction.
Driving Character
The DB9 is known for:
- Smooth V12 power delivery
- Comfortable long-distance cruising
- Strong exhaust sound without being overly aggressive
- Relaxed, luxurious feel
It is more of a refined GT car than a sharp sports car like a Ferrari.
